Shari'ah

Describe what is meant by Shari'ah and how it guides Muslim life.
Explain why Shari'ah is important for Muslims.
First point
Make your first point: explain what Shari'ah is and how its divine origin, established in Qur'an 5:48, makes it binding guidance for Muslims.
Second point
Make your second point: explain how Shari'ah provides a comprehensive system covering all areas of Muslim life, worship, family, commerce and justice.
Third point
Make your third point: explain how Qur'an 5:48's command to 'race to all that is good' shows that Shari'ah is a positive and liberating framework, not merely a set of restrictions.
'Shari'ah is essential to what it means to be a Muslim.' Assess this statement. You should refer to the significance of the passage provided, using your own or others' views to support your answer.
Passage: refer to this in your answer
And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.

Writing guides
- 1Agree: argue why Shari'ah, as Allah's guidance revealed in the Qur'an and Sunnah, is inseparable from Islamic identity and practice.
- 2Further agree: use Qur'an 5:48 to show that Allah commanded Muslims to judge by what He revealed, making Shari'ah a divine obligation, not a cultural option.
- 3Disagree: consider whether sincere faith (Iman), personal piety (taqwa), or intention (niyyah) are equally or more fundamental to being a Muslim than outward observance of Shari'ah.
